فوریه: بزرگداشت فرهنگ، تاریخ و جامعه

February is a time to honor diverse cultures, traditions, and histories. Learn how recognizing these observances can help children feel seen, support families, and create an inclusive environment for all children.

Celebrating the Traditions That Shape Our Communities

February is a meaningful month to recognize the cultures, traditions, and histories that shape the families and communities we serve. Taking time to learn about these observances helps children feel seen, helps families feel respected, and strengthens the sense of belonging in our child care programs.

February 1 | World Hijab Day

World Hijab Day is a time to learn about the hijab and why some women and girls choose to wear it. For children, this is an opportunity to practice respect and curiosity about differences. For providers, it’s a reminder that inclusive classrooms help every child feel safe and valued.

All Month | Black History Month

Black History Month celebrates the history, achievements, and contributions of Black individuals and communities. The 2026 theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” reflects 100 years of honoring Black history. Recognizing this month in child care settings supports positive identity development and teaches children about fairness, leadership, and resilience.

February 16–22 | Maslenitsa

Maslenitsa is a week-long festival celebrated in many Eastern European cultures before Orthodox Lent. It marks the transition from winter to spring and includes traditions such as music, games, and sharing crepes. Learning about seasonal celebrations from around the world helps children understand how different cultures welcome change and renewal.

February 17 | Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year is celebrated across many cultures, especially throughout Asia. This year marks the Year of the Horse. Families gather to celebrate new beginnings, health, and good fortune. Sharing traditions from Lunar New Year can introduce children to themes of family, hope, and fresh starts.

Begins at Sunset February 17 or 18 | Ramadan

Ramadan is a holy month observed by Muslims around the world. It is a time for fasting, prayer, reflection, and generosity. For providers, awareness of Ramadan can help create supportive environments for children and families who may be observing. For all children, it offers a chance to learn about empathy, kindness, and community care.

By recognizing and learning about these observances, we help create child care environments where every family feels welcomed, respected, and reflected. Even small moments of acknowledgment can make a big difference in helping children grow with understanding and compassion.
