Honoring Diverse Voices

Overview of March Observances

This March, we honor Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day, and Cesar
Chavez Day, celebrating women and farmworkers whose courage shows children that
small acts of fairness and kindness can grow into lasting change.

March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor the achievements, contributions, and
strength of women throughout history and in our communities. International Women’s
Day on March 8th is part of this celebration. It started over 100 years ago to recognize
women’s rights, including the right to vote and fair treatment at work. Today, people around the world celebrate women’s accomplishments and continue working toward equality.

Cesar Chavez Day, observed on March 31st, honors the life and work of Cesar Chavez, a leader who fought for fair pay, safe working conditions, and respect for farmworkers.
Chavez helped communities come together to stand up for their rights, showing how one person’s dedication can make a big difference.

This month, celebrate history with the children in your life by learning together about
leaders who planted seeds of change—sharing stories of women who helped shape our world and Cesar Chavez, and how their courage, teamwork, and determination helped grow fairness and opportunity in our communities.

Planting Activity: Decorate small pots and plant vegetable seeds to honor Cesar Chavez’s work for fair treatment of farmworkers and women leaders who planted seeds of change through their leadership and courage. As you plant together, talk about how change takes time, responsibility, care, and patience. As your seeds sprout, remember that small actions can grow into big, positive change.
