Building Stronger Child Care Systems through Community Engagement

See this year’s highlights in Community Engagement and how we are building on that momentum to expand child care resources and support across Sacramento County.

Creating opportunities for child care providers continued to take center stage in our work across Sacramento County this year, driven by innovative partnerships and a commitment to supporting families through the development of quality child care options. One of the most impactful collaborations has been our growing partnership with the City of Sacramento, whose dedication to expanding child care access and strengthening early learning opportunities has been invaluable. Child Action supported the early learning community in opening new businesses, expanding access for infants and toddlers, and building business knowledge. We extend our sincere appreciation to the City of Sacramento and other Sacramento leaders for recognizing the importance of child care as an essential component of community infrastructure and for investing in the well-being of children, families, and providers.

“With continued collaboration and shared vision, we are building a stronger, more connected child care ecosystem—one that uplifts providers, empowers families, and supports Sacramento’s youngest learners.”
Kelli Newman Director of Community Engagement

As we reflect on this progress, we are excited to launch new strategies that will further connect families and child care providers with the resources they need to thrive. This includes building on our screening process. By using a holistic approach that considers child care and early learning supports, as well as housing stability, employment, health, financial well-being, and other essential needs, we aim to streamline access to services. We are also expanding our physical reach by co-locating with community-based organizations like Molina Healthcare One Stop, Greater Sacramento Urban League, and the South Sacramento Family Resource Center. We look forward to partnering with additional agencies throughout the next year and meeting families in their own neighborhoods across the county.

As we look to the year ahead, we remain committed to strengthening partnerships, supporting providers, and creating more pathways for families to access the care they deserve.
