Inclusion of Children

Inclusion is the practice of welcoming every child as a full member of your program. It centers on belonging, participation, and learning—so each child can engage in daily routines and play alongside peers, with any needed supports.

Build trust with open, respectful communication. Ask about the child’s strengths, routines, and goals. Coordinate with therapists or teachers when applicable, and work together on consistent strategies across home and care.

Offer flexible routines, clear visuals, and materials at multiple levels. Arrange spaces for easy movement and sensory comfort. Use simple, predictable steps and model skills so children can join activities with confidence.

Start with small modifications—positioning, extra time, adapted tools, or peer buddies. Observe what works, celebrate progress, and adjust plans as needs change. Reach out for community resources when more help is needed.
