Week of the Young Child: A Week of Learning, Connection, and Impact
From music and STEAM to literacy and family events, Child Action brought a week of hands-on learning and connection to children and families throughout Sacramento County.
Child Action was proud to feature programming in support of NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child (April 11–17, 2026), a national celebration of early learning, young children, their families, and the professionals who support them every day. This year, the Community Engagement team brought the celebration into the community through a full week of themed activities, family events, and school partnerships.
Each themed day was marked in creative and engaging ways. Music Monday featured a staff video highlighting how music and movement support early childhood development. On Tasty Tuesday, families participated in a healthy snack demonstration with simple ideas they could try at home. Work Together Wednesday brought families together at River Oak Center for Children Family Resource Center for a STEAM activity filled with hands-on learning and fun.
For Artsy Thursday, the team partnered with the Athletics as the nonprofit partner of the game, distributing resources and literacy kits that included bookmarks, journals, and decorating supplies.
The week concluded with Family Friday, when Community Engagement and CARE staff read family-themed books in six TK–2nd grade classrooms at Leataata Floyd Elementary School in the Sacramento City Unified School District. Approximately 160 students participated, each receiving a bookmark, while teachers received donated books and classroom supplies.
Through these efforts, the organization expanded access to early learning resources, strengthened partnerships with schools and community organizations, and created meaningful experiences for children and families across Sacramento County.
